2012 Ford Explorer

As the drive for higher standards for fuel economy gains momentum, Ford announced that its 2012 Explorer equipped with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine is EPA of 20 mpg city, 28 mpg on the highway and not to overshadow its main competitors. In fact, these figures are closer to what is found with the small SUV like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.



There is a big concession: The EcoBoost Explorer is only available in FWD. There will be no four-wheel drive option.

As a direct comparison, the current Explorer V6 front-wheel drive is rated at 17 mpg city, 25 mpg highway. In our test drive a V6 Explorer four-wheel, we have 18 mpg overall to 12 mpg city and 26 mpg on the highway. Obviously, results vary depending on driving conditions and style.

Ford was the significant increase in fuel economy of the adequacy of its popular browser again, with a 2.0-liter engine. The combination of turbocharging and direct injection allows the engine to produce low cylinder 240 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque, while being stingy with fuel.

This strategy engine, which is known by the EcoBoost brand, is applied in almost all parts of the line Ford. By 2013, the automaker estimates EcoBoost engines provide 90 percent of its models.
