By TLex The HELSON Tortuga (Spanish for turtle) takes its inspiration from a vintage case that for many will be instantly recognizable save only for its crown placement. The case with its specialized bezel removal system was used by a number of watch manufacturers in the 60s and 70s; Royce, Cyma, Blancpain and most recognizably Squale, who have just recently released the 101 ATM.
The HELSON Tortuga is not a homage to any of these watches, which (from my limited vintage knowledge) sported predominantly block hands, rather than sword, but rather an appreciation of their rounded cases and bezel changing system. Like the watches that it took its inspiration from, the HELSON Tortuga's case is also water-resistance to 1'000m.
Size-wise the case remains 43mm, but with an increased 22 lug width to accommodate the two straps that the watch will ship with. Each watch will come two different bezels; one with a black insert measuring 44mm and a 45mm steel bezel along with its own brass bezel changing tool. The Tortuga will house the new Miyota 9015 hacking movement. It will ship for 599USD and will available from next week.
