H2O Kalmar MOKUME GANE FixedBezel

By TLex INTRODUCING the new H2O Kalmar MOKUME GANE FixedBezel. H2O Watches’ most exotic case material and an industry first. Produced for H2O by their partner and reputed German knife maker Uwe Suhrweier. Mokume Gane (木目金), which translates from Japanese as ‘wood grain’ metal is the product of a special process of bonding mixed-metals invented in 17th-century Feudal Japan by Denbei Shoami. It was used for sword fittings at a time when the decline of the katana industry had forced artisans to create purely decorative items. Achieving a successful lamination using traditional processes requires a highly skilled sword maker with a great deal of experience.

Like all H2O Kalmar, the new Mokume Gane FixedBezel diver is based on the same 45mm (46mm inc. bezel) x 17.6mm case with a 3000m of water-resistance as the regular Kalmar, but instead of the traditional rotational divers bezel it has a fixed bezel. The Kalmar FixedBezel does not have an HEV either.

The Kalmar MOKUME GANE FixedBezel features a Mokume Gane case, exhibition caseback, bezel and crown guard. The crown is in Titanium. As the watch is fitted with an exhibition caseback its water-resistance has been slightly decreased to 2000m, which is indicated on its caseback. If desired the caseback could be switched to a solid version which would allow for 3000 meters of water-resistance. The Mokume Gane exhibition caseback affords a spectacular view onto the watch's Swiss made ETA 2824-2 automatic movement with a custom SuperLuminova applied H2O rotor.

AVAILABILITY There are just 3 pieces of the Kalmar Mokume FixedBezel available. The watch will come on a custom H2O black Horween ‘Shell Cordovan’ strap with black stitching and a Mokume Gane CNC buckle. It will be presented in a genuine leather watch box with 4 compartments. Price: 4’000USD (+19% VAT for EU). Availability for all new models is end of November / early December with a UPS Express shipment scheduled to arrive before Christmas.

OFFER H2O Watches will supply an additional Horween Shell Cordovan strap in dark burgundy with a custom OceanicTime divers icon on its keeper. For further details please visit the H2O Online Shop . . .

H2O Kalmar TUNGUM FixedBezel

By TLex INTRODUCING the new H2O Kalmar TUNGUM FixedBezel. This is not just a new model for H2O, but the forerunner to H2O’s new line in exotic metal divers, which will include further Tungum models with rotational divers bezels as well as a Mokume Gane FixedBezel diver. The TUNGUM FixedBezel is based on the same 45mm (46mm inc. bezel) x 17.6mm case with a 3000m of water-resistance as the regular Kalmar, but instead of the traditional rotational divers bezel it has a fixed bezel. The Kalmar FixedBezel does not have an HEV either.

The Kalmar TUNGUM FixedBezel features a Tungum case, bezel, crown guard and custom CNC buckle. The crown and exhibition caseback are made from anamorphic DLC coated Titanium. As the watch is fitted with an exhibition caseback its water-resistance has been slightly decreased to 2000m, which is indicated on its caseback. If desired the caseback could be switched to a solid version which would allow for 3000 meters of water-resistance. The DLC exhibition caseback affords a spectacular view onto the watch's Swiss made ETA 2824-2 automatic movement with a custom SuperLuminova applied H2O rotor. .

TUNGUM The Tungum alloy that the H2O Kalmar TUNGUM FixedBezel and its various components is constructed from is a relatively unused material in the watch-making industry. In fact only one other company is using it. Apart from being an incredibly attractive material with a lustrous appearance of 22 carat gold; Tungum alloy is well suited to marine environments. It is non-magnetic and non-sparking and is highly corrosion resistant to seawater. It is used commercially for high pressure gas pipeline systems.

AVAILABILITY There are just 9 pieces of the Kalmar TUNGUM FixedBezel available for the moment. The watch will come on a custom H2O black Horween ‘Shell Cordovan’ strap with black stitching. Price: 2’000USD (+19% VAT for EU). Availability for all new models is end of November / early December with a UPS Express shipment scheduled to arrive before Christmas.

Photos and story of autobahn crash (No more... Alpine White E61 M5 Touring)

Hi Guys,

As some of you may know I had a serious crash in my M5 Touring in mid July this summer. The car got totalled. Thought I 'd share some details and photos with you all.

To start with the most important thing: we were 3 in the car: my wife, my 7month old daughter and me - nobody got hurt, not even a scratch. Thank God (and BMW safety...)

Here's the story:

Sunny saturday afternoon, 4 pm, 35 degrees celsius, 2 lane autobahn, medium traffic in both lanes, me going in the left lane. I was travelling easy at about 180 km/h (okay, okay, show me one member here who sticks to the limits), talking with my wife, when suddenly I heard a loud bang from the right side. I lifted my foot off the gas (do not like to drive using Cruise Control) and that's when it all immediately started. The car was thrown out to the left, started spinning anti-clockwise. My wife told me later she saw me trying to countersteer, apparently it was worthless. The car hit the armco and the front airbags were blown. No more vision (grey dust everywhere), temporary deafness (airbags blown), no more steering wheel - and the car still spinning uncontrollably at 140km/h sideways !!! We hit the front and back of the car several times, slided off to the right side, then flipped over 2 times - until the car stopped. All airbags were blown out. One of the photos shows how we stopped and got out.

We did not hit any major obstacle, nor did anyone crash into us during the spinning. The rear left wheel got torn out and you can see the rest.... The crash felt like it lasted forever...

Police and tyre experts later confirmed the accident was caused by a puncture to the rear right tyre. A tiny little hole, that let the air out slowly, then the inside of the rim cut through the tyre, that's when all the pressure was lost suddenly. TPM did not give any warning whatsoever though and the car did not behave in any strange ways beforehand!! Experts said these kind of puncture accidents have a 70% death rate of at least 1 person...

Anyway, I've been thanking God ever since to have survived this crap. I still can't explain to myself what I should have been doing differently.... I did have insurance, they've paid me already, and I sold the wreck. (Almost) Forgot the whole stuff, but did not want to post anything until the police investigation was over.

We did some short consideration with my wife, and decided to get the same car
- different color. It is arriving in a couple of weeks, in Diopside Black and Rust Brown full perforated leather. Gonna post photos asap.
