SEIKO Ananta Diver 200m Chrono 130th Anniversary CE

By TLex It's probably fair to say that SEIKO aren't particularly well represented here, but that's by no means through lack of love for the brand I can assure you. Here's one particular diver from SEIKO that caught my eye at the Basel fair this year. The Ananta Diver 200m Chronograph is a watch that is not only aesthetically beautifully (yes, I think beautiful sums up its looks perfectly), but is also a technically brilliant watch with a specialized movement made specifically for use in a divers in watch. The Ananta Diver houses the 8R39 Caliber with SEIKO's proprietary alloy balance spring with upgraded shock-resistance and anti-magnetism. The Chrono movement is fixed to the case at three points to further increase stability.

The Ananta Diver is further distinguished as a true divers model by its jet-black lacquered dial; ideal for being able to pick out its markers so that the dive time is as readable as possible even in dark waters. The specialized dial, which SEIKO commissioned Isshu Tamura master of the Japanese traditional Kaga MAKI-E art form and pupil of the famous master MAKI-E artist Seria Ikkou; offers high legibility, which is a vital attribute in a diving watch. The legibility is further enhanced by the use of anti-reflective coating on its sapphire crystal.

The Ananta Diver, which was made for SEIKO's 130th Anniversary Commemorative Collection, and is available as a limited edition of 700 pieces. It will be released worldwide this autumn priced at 4'700USD.

GUILLAUME NERY 'Free Fall'

By TLex A base jump of a different kind; a free fall into another element. Witness World champion freediver Guillaume Néry's special dive at Dean's Blue Hole, the deepest blue hole in the world filmed entirely on breath hold by the french champion Julie Gautier. His Incredible dive has now been commemorated with the BALL WATCH Co. Engineer Master II Diver FreeFall . . .

BALL Watch Co. ENGINEER Hydrocarbon DeepQUEST

By TLex BALL WATCH Co. are one of only a handful of Swiss Luxury brands to have conquered the deep. It’s a dark a foreboding world at 3’000 meters, but the BALL Engineer Hydrocarbon DeepQUEST is well equipped . .

From Ball Watch Co. The arrival of Guillaume Nery, holder of several constant weight free-diving world records, as a member of the BALL Explorers Club in 2006 was for BALL Watch an opportunity to focus its efforts on the development of a line of timepieces implementing the brand’s watchmaking expertise for underwater diving. BALL diving watches were previously included in the “Engineer Master II” series. However, the concentrate of watchmaking technology in the new Engineer Hydrocarbon DeepQUEST means that this explorer’s watch fits naturally in the “Engineer Hydrocarbon” family.

To swim in complete freedom with dolphins, discover the world’s deepest underwater gorges or swim beneath the ice are just some of the exploits achieved by Guillaume Nery. In his own words, these are the sort of dreams that the oceans allow you to fulfill. For an enthusiast of the aquatic world, such as Guillaume Nery, a diving watch is the sole personal object that he takes with him when he sets off to explore the world’s seas. The planet’s last unexplored frontier, the oceans provide man with the possibility of entering an ecosystem of exceptional wealth and which is the cradle of the life itself on Earth.

By raising the water resistance of the new Engineer Hydrocarbon DeepQUEST to 3,000 meters, the BALL Watch engineers have achieved a spectacular new technical feat and have pushed back the boundaries of their expertise. This exceptional water resistance has been made possible in particular by machining the entire case out of a single block onto which the bezel is directly screwed. This construction reduces the potential interfaces liable to warp under the effects of water pressure. Strengthening the crown seals, generally considered the weak point of a watch in terms of water resistance, has contributed to avoid any entry of water when it is maintained in the screwed-in position. The final aspect of this protective array is the anti-reflective sapphire crystal with its thickness raised to 5.3 mm.

The generously proportioned titanium case as well as the wide dial opening and its streamlined design also enable immediate and clear reading of the timepiece’s indications, another essential feature of any diving watch. With the extremely accurate and new BALL patented setting system, the rotating bezel easily indicates to the user the time lapse he may need while diving. Furthermore, its unidirectional rotation is an additional source of safety in the event of its accidental movement while in the water.

The dial and the hands are fitted with gas micro tubes, the iconic signature of all BALL watches, to ensure perfect legibility. Until 100 times more efficient than the use of conventional luminescent paint, this Swiss technology ensures perfect luminosity without the need for any external source of light or energy. The patented design of the three-dimensional luminescent vision of the indexes finally illuminates the dial in blue, the last color which remains visible in the darkness of the deep.

The tapered stainless steel and titanium bracelet, with the BALL patented folding buckle and extension system, mean the watch can be easily and safely worn on the wrist even over a diving suit. Loyal to the exceptional characteristics of its collection, the Engineer Hydrocarbon DeepQUEST has a guaranteed shock resistance of up to 7,500Gs and an antimagnetic endurance of an intensity of up to 4,800A/m.

Robust beyond compare, record water-resistance, resistant to even extreme shocks and magnetic fields, absolute reliability and accuracy in even the most adverse conditions: the Engineer Hydrocarbon DeepQUEST is definitively the watch of all superlatives. Today, more than ever, BALL Watch is continuing its journey and asserting its role as a key protagonist in the evolution of watchmaking history.

BALL Watch Co. ENGINEER Master II Diver FreeFall

From Ball Watch Co. By welcoming Guillaume Néry as a member of the BALL Explorers Club in 2006, BALL Watch made the conscious decision to link its timepieces with the very high level sports discipline of free-diving. This young French sportsman holds several constant-weight free-diving world records. Adopting the same quest for perfection as its ambassador, BALL Watch has developed within its “Engineer Master II” family, a range of diving watches including chronometers and chronographs, some of which also have mechanical thermometers, a GMT function and a World time display. Today, BALL Watch is proud to present a new diving chronograph reflecting the same deserving lineage as its predecessors.

The Engineer Master II Diver FreeFall pays homage to the sensational video clip 'Free Fall' produced by Guillaume Néry in 2010. Filmed by his partner Julie Gautier, he performed a veritable base jump into the entrails of Dean’s Blue Hole, the world’s deepest known blue hole located in the Bahamas. Having attracted an extraordinary global audience, this film is an artistic project seeking to deliver through fiction and its setting a new approach to free-diving films. In this way, Guillaume Néry has sought to express the power of the elements of water, earth and air, as well as a sense of freedom, harmony and exploration inherent in free-diving. These values are the same as those that have inspired BALL Watch in designing this new watch.

By restyling its diving chronograph for this limited edition of 500 pieces, BALL’s designers have deliberately opted for a streamlined and striking style combining the elegance of curves with the strength of character derived from the dark colors of the black dial and case with its metallic accents. Of unparalleled reliability and precision, the ETA 7750 movement drives a chronograph with cumulative time measurement of up to 12 hours combined with a day and date function. Its water-resistance up to 300 meters, its shock resistance up to 5,800Gs and its anti-magnetic endurance of an intensity of up to 4,800A/m will make the Engineer Master II Diver FreeFall the ideal partner for the most demanding divers when they set off to explore the ocean floor.

The unidirectional internal rotating bezel, activated using a screw-in crown, is the simplest and safest way of knowing your dive time. For deep water dives, the diver must be able to read the indications on his or her watch whatever the ambient light level. The most effective and the most durable solution is without doubt the technology developed by BALL Watch, which involves fitting the hands and dial with micro-tubes of luminescent gas. Without the need for any external source of light, these micro-tubes can produce constant light up to 100 times more intense than conventional luminescent paint.

By enriching its “Engineer Master II” collection with a new chronograph replicating the performance of its ambassador, BALL Watch has anchored its exceptional partnership with Guillaume Néry and further asserts itself as a key brand in the diving watch segment. Today, more than ever, BALL Watch is continuing its journey and asserting its role as a key protagonist in the exploration of time and the evolution of watchmaking history.
